I'm using Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop environment and need to set up the Japanese input method using Mozc. I want to switch to Japanese by clicking on the Mozc icon in the system tray, while keeping my current input method switching (English and Russian) intact, using the Shift + Alt shortcut. This setup should not interfere with the existing Shift + Alt switching mechanism; I don’t want Shift + Alt to trigger Japanese input—only English and Russian.

So far, I’ve tried installing the Mozc icon through both the fcitx and iBus frameworks, but I’ve been unsuccessful. However, I am open to the possibility that I may have overlooked something and could have explored the setup further.

That’s why I’m posting this question here to find the correct solution. Thank you in advance.
