I'd like to use the Montserrat font (variant Regular) in a Word document and export it to PDF. For that, I downloaded and installed Montserrat-VariableFont_wght.ttf from Google:

.family=Montserrat

When save it in Word as PDF, the resulting PDF uses Montserrat Thin instead of Regular. The same happens when I export via Adobe Acrobat.

Here an example:

.docx

.pdf

I already tried activating the "Preserve fidelity when sharing this document", "Embed fonts in the file" option in Word but it did not help. When using Microsoft Print to PDF, then the fonts look fine, but some other details of the document do not (lines). Also none of the other PDF printers I tried produced the results I want.

I tried to open Montserrat-VariableFont_wght.ttf in FontFe, and there I see that Thin is the default style. However, I am not well-versed enough to change it and export again such a variable ttf that contains all styles.

Any advice on how I can fix this?
