On a morning like any other, I run git status in Git Bash, only to be greeted with this:

fatal: unable to access 'C:\Users?artolomeo/.config/git/config': Invalid argument

For context, my Windows username is bartolomeo. This error is completely unprecedented.

I tried playing around with the HOME env variable:

In Bash, running echo $HOME yields C:\Userartolomeo, and running set HOME=C:\Users\bartolomeo changes nothing.

In cmd, echo %HOME% yields C:\Users\bartolomeo.
